Archives

July 10, 12:15pm: We were unable to make a timely correction on the sites that were having mySQL errors after the upgrade. Therefore, the two servers that were upgraded were reverted back to their original status. My apologies to all clients who were affected this morning for just over an hour while we reverted these servers back to their original configuration. As you know, we do not normally bring servers down during regular business hours but felt this was the best solution at the time.

July 9, 10:30pm: Oubound email issue:
We are happy to report that for the most part, the blocking issue appears to have cleared now. We are getting occassional reports of clients who are still getting bounceback messages when sending. If this is occurring for you, please forward your bounce message to us so we can contact the isp in question to make sure they have updated their lists.

Background: The problem with the outgoing mail was caused when we were assigned a block of IP's that were not properly configured to allow mail to be sent from them. The problem has recognized immediately, within an hour of setting up the servers at the new data centre. However, it took quite some time to have the delisting done at the organizations that maintain these 'blacklists'. There was never any issue of the ip addresses being used for spam, rather they were simply not assigned as static ip's. The spam blacklisting sites consider that a dynamic ip should not be allowed to send email and therefore our ip's were blocked. They have been correctly assigned as static ip addresses now. Those ISP's who utilize the various blacklists should no longer be blocking outbound email from our servers. Of course, it is totally up to the receiving ISP whether or not they accept email from any particular source, so we are somewhat at their mercy in when they decide to stop blocking. We are being very vigilant with following up with those providers who continue to block us.

May 12, 2009: There was a problem on one of the servers with incoming email. The issue caused when an automated script to remove an account failed to fully remove all of the files.

January 23, 2009, 9:45 am: The intermittent connection issue on the Excelsior server has been resolved. A rare misconfiguration in mysql settings was found and corrected. It caused the server to lockup with certain requests. We apologize for the inconvenience this issue caused.

January 21, 2009, 9:15pm to 10:40 pm: An attack against a particular website on one of our servers made both mail and websites unavailable until we were able to isolate and block the offending IP address. Other servers were not affected.

January 18, 2009: The affected server from the Dec 16 issue was restored to the original machine from the standby server. Sites were down from 11pm until 3:30am to facilitate this maintenance window.

December 16, 2008: At approximately 8am, one of our servers shut down spontaneously due to a failed cpu fan. Web sites and email were restored to our standby server by approximately 8pm. Other clients on our other servers were not affected.

August 7, 2008: At about 07:00 EST, a denial of service (DOS) attack was launched on two of our servers. The attack appears to be a www flooding attack. After troubleshooting and investigations were completed, an IP address in the Southern US was found to be the culprit. The IP was immediately firewalled from reaching our network, and all web, database and email services were restored. The ISP who manages the IP were contacted and asked to follow up.
